“If Only It Was A Dream” by Gary L Robinson

Sleep, restless with uncertainty dreamed
A lie, nothing was as it helplessly seemed
"Mr. Sandman please come visit me" - Hopeful

The warning came with a lightening flash

Followed by the foreboding thunder crash
"I hate nights like these" - Fearful

As she rose, a mechanical rumble was heard

To the window she sprang, uttered not a word
"Oh please Lord not again" - Unsurprised

Through the rain laced window she peered

And found the sight she always feared
"NO… mom why must you leave" - Repulsed

A tear fell, mirrored the horrid weather

Cheeks and glass streamed, cried together
"Why do you do this to us" - Questioning

Her father away to make them a living

To support and selflessly, he was giving
"Daddy, I wish you would come home" – Lovingly

Through blurred eyes and fogged window pane
She watched this play act out, dark and insane
"Mother please don't leave us here alone" - Anguished

A mother unaware, fled with a selfish grin
To drink, smoke and lavish herself in sin
"What are we going to do" - Doubtful

She the oldest age five and sister three
Unwillingly, the children alone and free
"How long will she be gone this time" - Disgusted

She returned to bed, along side crying sister
Alone, while mom left with unknown mister
"Its ok sis, we'll be fine...don't cry" - Protective

The lil' girls cuddled and found their solace
She then and there made a solemn promise
"Shhh...I will protect you now and forever" - Purposeful

 Sleep restless with uncertainty dreamed
A lie, nothing was as it helplessly seemed
"Please Mr. Sandman come visit me and sister" – Numb
